Forсing players to visit colonia engineers it is oppression

The Galaxy of Elite is huge. I understand. What i don't understend why i should traveling literraly days if i don't want? It is revenge from game designers to players? But for what? It's about exclusive updates of colonia engineers. I must fly week of my real life, just fly, not play, to get update. This fact makes me sad.
It makes me sad that this makes you sad.

Could anyone please be so kind to tell what this hype is about?
Colonia engineers offer higher engineering services or what?
Is it a gamebreaking advantage over the commanders who strictly fly inside the bubble?

Serious, no sarcasm, at least not at this point.

Flying is part of the game. Elite: Dangerous is a game about flying spaceships. Visiting the engineers in Colonia is completely optional. I have never visited the engineers in Colonia, even though I've been to Colonia and my game isn't suffering.

Colonia engineers has exclusive updates, for example SCB level 4 and Life Support level 5, also maybe some other too.

Of course it affects balance.

But more important that it hasn’t any rationale except humiliation.

There's an engineer - I forget her name - that demands I befriend some anarchist scum before she'll talk to me. I'm doing my best to never befriend anarchist scum and so far I'm doing pretty well at that goal, so I'm likely never going to get access to that engineer, or any of her friends.

Do I go onto the forum and rant and rave about the unfairness, about ED "forcing me to befriend anarchists" or being "oppressed"? No. It's my choice to play as an anti-anarchist, and I must live with the consequences of that choice. So I simply accept that I will never, ever get those particular engineering upgrades, and I carry on playing the game without them.
Well, then you should probably be happy that the Colonia engineers exist. There you can in time get the same upgrades and don't have to break your roleplay.

How about freedom of choice what to do in Elite? You speak a lot about freedom but only about convinient for you.
It's not remotely convenient for me to fly to Colonia and back. Indeed, it's considerably less convenient for my CMDR than most.

I am very glad not everything is convenient or easy.

If you don't PvP you are safe to ignore it.

In PvP however G4 rapid charge SCBs can give a slight edge over G3 (3.5s vs. 3.0s spinup time)... 0.5 seconds less for the opponent to interrupt your SCB with feedback cascade.

We put in quite a bit of work out here to get those blueprints, though, or they'd still be on G1 like Hatchbreaker Limpets and Manifest Scanners are. Maybe some sort of paired CG where we give some bubble engineers rights to the blueprints, in exchange for some designs for larger A-rated modules. That would seem fair.

But I agree that no-one should feel they have to come out to Colonia specifically for an in-game advantage. The advantages of Colonia so far have been many - but not for min-maxers - and I quite like it that way.

Well, sure, but that's an advantage whether they have exclusives or not - and none of the exclusives are particularly major compared with the immediately previous grade.
Yeah and I contributed to those unlocks too. I think I might have been possessed by some malevolent force to travel out there just for the sake of unlocking 4 more engineers to max grade.
I still think we should have the same grades available in the bubble.
I'm also miffed I left my mining T-10 out there so at some stage I'm going to have to and get it or pay 400mil to ship it.

Colonia engineers service levels are upgraded over time with use, so can eventually get access to blueprints which exist but have no actual provider in the bubble - presumably one or more of the eight bubble engineers that were originally planned but never added to the game might have them? At the moment, this gives G4 shield cell banks and G5 life support., with G5 fuel scoop likely to be completed in the next few months. (G5 refinery will show up some day, G5 interdictor and AFMU will in theory show up someday but unless someone deliberately fast-tracks them by repeatedly engineering a scratch module, probably not in the lifetime of the game)

The Life Support is of extremely marginal benefit compared with the G4, the SCBs probably are useful for particular PvP builds and extremely specialist PvE builds but it's still only a marginal advantage, and the Fuel Scoop when it's available will be of no practical use whatsoever.

The main advantage of the Colonia engineers is that you have ready access to every blueprint - and eventually all at G5, though they're some way off that - from just four engineers who are all very close together. It makes engineering a new ship much more convenient ... if you already live in Colonia, that is!

Well, then you should probably be happy that the Colonia engineers exist. There you can in time get the same upgrades and don't have to break your roleplay.
Well, to an extent. One of them is unlocked through the Anarchist, so you still can't get their upgrades, which prevents access to G5 Power plant and G4/5 utility scanners.
