EDDiscovery - Exploration Tool for PC Users. Journal, 3dMap, Voice

A worthy cause.

EDSM is being upgraded at the moment, and EDD is not a happy bunny. The great Anthor will have it all hunky dory again soon.

In the meantime, turn off EDSM/EDDB downloading on the settings tab - bottom right.

Quick question...

Is there a way to track the current amount of exploration data stored on the ship? I'm not entirely certain there's a function for that in either the API or the journals that could be used for this purpose, but I thought I'd ask.

About to head out into the unknown to finish off my Elite ranking for exploration, and it'd be nice to have a rough idea of how much I'm currently sitting on before I turn and head back to the bubble. :D

Certainly is, open the statistics tab and check the scan value since last dock.

Hi there,

Two things that I've noticed in 10.3.3.0:

1. The Statistics panel pinned to the main window remains empty if there are no journal entries displayed in the History tab after the app is started. My default filter is set to 6 hours to cover my last gaming session. If I last played more than 6 hours ago, I need to reset it to the longer period to display something in History and hence in Statistics.

2. The 3D map does not point at the system I'm currently in. This particular system is shown at the bottom of the window and it's not easy to point and zoom at it (for example: to check the nearest surroundings).

Does EDSM have a thread on these forums? I did not see a link to any forum on their website.

In case they do not I will post my question.

How accurate is the "Estimated scan value since last docking" on their website when you log in and then import your journal?

When I log in it is one value and when I import my journal the value increases a lot. In four hours of exploring out in the Norma Expanse I supposedly made 10M CR's. I did scan all bodies with the FSS in each system I jumped into. 10M in four hours just seems like a lot to me.

10M in four hours in not unusual now. If you're scanning everything in a system and sometimes mapping all or most of a system.
Profits from mapping, efficiency and other bonuses, I did a little over 8M in a couple of hours last week on a quick 5KLy jaunt and I wasn't scanning every system.

1. It doesn't do that if you filter them out after you start - I'll try to remember to set it to 6h before I close and then open it in the morning to see if I can reproduce.

2. The settings tab controls whether it opens on the selected history entry or your 'Home System'. If the former have you got 'Cursor to Top' selected on the history tab so it always has the most recent entry selected?

I have a question regarding the installation. I chose a “complete” install (all the star systems) using my D: drive as the installation drive, but I saw the C drive space getting whittled down. Despite installing the program on my D: drive, it wants to store all the star data on my small SSD C: drive, and a complete install is massive.

Is there any way to get it to install the star system data on my D: drive instead?

Yeah, that should make you reproduce the case.

The last system is indeed SELECTED, but the 3D map is not FOCUSED on it. The focus is far away from it. If I want to check its surroundings, I need to manually move/zoom the map to make it a "virtual center" of the view.

Yep, there are a few panels whose initial refresh doesn't appear to happen if the history grid opens empty. I'll have a look.

In your screenshot your rotated quite a way off the default top down view - is that necessary to get it not centred? I can't reproduce this one...

It seems that hitting the "take me to the current system" button sets correct X- and Y-axis, but fails at setting Z-axis. I've recorded what happens when I manually set the view to have my current system in the middle of the screen (I can rotate the view, zoom in/out and the system is still where it should be) and then hit the button.

It's also possible that I've changed the view somehow and it's too far from default now. Can it be reset to default?
