[B]why no space legs ot atmo planets and planetary bases[B]

how come we dont have atmo planets, space legs and player own planetary bases? no man sky did this with a small team. im Sure that Fdev has better equipment and more experienced staff to make this happens. plus they keep getting revenue from in-game purchases. it seems that they dont want to or they abandoned ED for other projects like PC or JW. the current state of the game is based on Grind and RNG and honestly a a couple ships is not going to make the game better.

NMS is crap. Lol

When ED gets atmospheric planets, it'll be far better. FD wants it done properly.

FD are currently focused on sorting out gameplay it seems, with beyond. So that's inevitably going to delay atmospheric planets. But I don't care.
No point having atmospheric planets if it's just the same as the airless ones. Lol

i had the same opinion about NMS and it took HG studios 2 years to get where they are now. recently i played NMSa and even tho is not accurate as ED i was having fun, i enjoyed the base building mechanic and the missions that i got from my specialist, unlocking new tech developing it and applying it. ED has been up for 4 years and we dont even have a mining automated system like in NMS. im sorry but thats no excuse to not release atmo/space legs/bases. they had big talk back then about space leg being in their big list of things... and yet now that topic is almost taboo, like they try to doge it with excuses of there is no game play for it.Really?!!! Anyone that spends more than an hour in the forums knows that there is game play elements to space legs, the community is doing the work for the devs. but apparently crime punishment is more important and Grind too. if Fdev comes forth and tells us straight up that there will be no ammo planets or space legs i can live with that, but so far it has the community hoping for something that might not even come one day. In my opinion the reason that they dont say that they are not going to implement those mechanics is to keep people playing and not go to another games with those mechanics like NMS or SC. because the fact is that if elite had those mechanics, no one would play NMS or SC.

I get you. I think we WILL get atmospheric planets at some point, maybe next year/season.
Probably not ELWs, but a variety lifeless atmospheric planets.

Spacelegs I'm not sure about. I can't see it working for some reason. Probably just me being skeptical. Lol
I can't even see much use for it to be honest.

ELWs and water world's will complex life will likely be amongst the last of the major updates. I can imagine it taking a huge amount of work, and requiring more from our PCs to do it properly and realistically.

I don't even know if FD are interested in letting us build stuff. It's never been what Elite was about. But who knows, maybe. We are getting carriers soon™. So fleet building will sort of be a thing.

Space legs and atmospheric planets have been hinted at by the FDevs as possibilities in the future, I think! In some notes, the ships were designed with the idea of walking around inside, so that could indicate a long term vision to include space legs.

Atmospheric planets probably will happen, maybe at the end of this year, or sometime next year. We can only hope! I think that it's probably right that they take their time with it, to make sure it's absolutely technically and aesthetically right, like the above comment said. I'm happy to wait, I love what they are doing with this game, and I've only been at it for a few months.

there are some game-play elements for space legs/atmo/bases; ill just name a few:

base/resort: creating bases to:
manufacture commodities [mining+trading]
resort for passengers missions [passive income](atmo planets)

space legs: repair+refuel+salvage:
get rid of unnecessary limpets and use space legs for it
infiltration missions/espionage
station repairs.
personal base repair and upgrade.

this are just a few ideas. there are people who literally spend hours coming out with ideas for gameplay of this sort wayy better than my own

i see you point but i have been in this game for a couple years now and im hoenstly bored, couldnt even get the corvette out of the boredom and time constrains. i remember when i had a couple months in the game i was excited to get out of work and play for hours. but the grind killed it for me. couldn't even made decent money the way i like it (combat). i dont know, everytime the devs are asked a question about space legs or atmo, you see in their expressions that they dont want to talk about it. just like in FX some guy shouted "SPACE LEGS!!" and the stage guy that was talking paused for like a minute and stared at him. even if we dont get SL i hope the game drops the grind and adds more dept because right now the milky ways feels like is an ocean of shallow water.

I feel you! Especially if you have been in the game for years. I suppose it boils down to what you want from the game. For example, I'm primarily a roleplayer and even though the roleplay scope is limited in this game, I still play it from the perspective of a character, and it keeps it interesting for me. I have a tendency to play sci fi movie soundtracks in the background, and I make choices based on what my character would do, and I try to keep my Inara up to date, and so on and so forth. I also try not to get too terribly bogged down by the grind and try to just find things to do that I enjoy, such as landing on planets and exploring.

As for the developers pausing and avoiding the space leg question - I suppose it's a difficult one to broach, and any answer could have a consequence. It's quite a complex addition to a game that would potentially require a rewiring of the games codex or something like that anyway. At least we have a game that is playable at the moment, as opposed to say, Star Citizen, which is visually gorgeous but according to it's players, almost unplayable.

There's a silver lining - but I'm sure that they will be trying to find ways to get these game elements added to ED. It's the companies primary and most popular game at the moment I think, so they will undoubtedly want to find ways to continuously make it that bit better. Keep hope!

I think I bring up Atmo planets in 90% of my posts. It's the thing I want most out of ED and I'm very anxious to finally see it.

Knowing Frontier, they're working hard on getting it right and accurate. If they release simple atmo planets without much thought, just to please the hordes of begging masses (like me!) people will be right up their behinds with a flashlight, complaining that the sky in a predominantly methane and acetylene atmosphere should be seafoam green instead of shamrock green, or something like that. My point is, there is a lot to consider in order to get it correct (or at least correct enough to satisfy the devs) and that takes an awful lot of time. My gut says they're on it like white on rice, but it'll have to be close to complete and polished before we finally hear about it officially. If/when it comes out, it'll be glorious, I have no doubt.

... me thinks its gunna be in the big patch in Q4 of 2018.

Not space legs, but the ability to land on atmo planets, they will also probably limit it to planets without a life sustaining atmosphere (so no cities and what not).. and move on up to that.

Not true, it makes a huge difference in VR for one, for game longevity, but has many game resource issues.

NMS is hardly the space simulator that ED is. It's basically a walking survival game on a single planetspace disguised to be different with random variation in terrain, flora and fauna. Frontier was relatively a small team too before ED release and the company became public. If you compare the detail and fidelity to astronomy ED has far more persistent detailing and a much bigger worldspace than NMS. And there are plenty of threads on why ED doesn't have atmospherics where the two main reasons are one, the tech may not be there yet especially on ED's ptp instancing. Has NMS implemented spacelegs in the player ships themselves or on massive rotating and detailed stations? of course not, far from it. Two, the resources to make the detail and fidelity comprehensive for spacelegs would be enormous. Consider how FSX has had over 10 years of third party development for sceneries , airports, detailed planes, etc. from hundreds of third party addons, and in comparison it's a long road ahead for ED. Not saying that ED will have to do 1meter resolution for the square kilometer detail the size of Earth, but they still have thousands of populatd worlds, hundreds of lore worlds, and billions of stars to do detail convincing enough for atmos and spacelegs. NMS besides being illusory on that level, use cartoony design style so it doesn't have to be compared to realistic looking sci-fi demands and so sidesteps the challenge. And finally compare the positive vs. negative reviews on steam between ED and NMS. Even with their year of updates, and rovers etc., NMS gameplay gets old far faster than ED. Yes ,it's a long wait, and it may be several more years before spacelegs, but then again in comparison, no other game project hsd made it there yet either nor even matched ED's current working ground-breaking state. (dual universe with their low rez voxels, and star citizen with their few planets in one system, a jerky mess at the moment).

I wouldn't even describe it as a planetscape, the "planets", and I use that word with some reservations in NMS are around 35kmin radius, you can walk around them in around 12 hours. It doesn't simulate gravity, it certainly doesn't simulate anything close to a solar system or galaxy despite its claims. I would describe it more as standard MMO gameworld wrapped around a sphere, and not a very good game world at that. I suspect a lot of ED development time went into getting the galaxy right, it's only now we are staring to see serious work in the details. Yes it needs a lot of work, but I hope everyone who looked into ED actually took the time to research it enough to realise this before buying.

i think that you misunderstood my point when i compared both games. im aware that the tech is diferent. but the NMS team focused on what players wanted and make the game fun-ish. what my point is that ED is releasing very bad content instead good one. let me give you a recent example.

on the 2 strea of 3.0 beta they introduced MS heist. this are hevily armored ships with additional System Security ships. now the goal here is to make an awesome buck if you want to be a pirate(risk/reward). that sounded awesome until they say that is better to do this on wings. so you will need a wing of 3 and at least one of the ship fully equipped with cargo holds to be able to scoop MAX cargo and make profitable heist while your buddy deal with the security. now yo pulled a successful heist and you make lets say 30 mil, 10 mil each. first they need to sell the cargo and here is where problems start. how do they distribute the profit? if the 2 other ships are full of hull reinforcements and combat modules how do they get paid? commanders cannot give currency to one another. so they would have to go to a station get some cargo racks, go out, get the cargo, smuggle it inside(dont get blown), and sell it. to me that sounds like an anoyance.

they could implements planetary mining with equipment that u have to maintain and that will yield resources that you can sell while mine in orbit. and make good buck. further more you can establish a depo near it with lets say a cargo srv with 200t cap and u can ride that srv to a nearby city and sell it. now you have ground and air combat. and i didnt added no new mechanics to the game just a 2 new models and a grounded limpet. my point is that there is extreme potential in the game currently as it is if they add the right elements.

tell me if wouldnt be cool to have ur srv truck going top speed being chase down by pirates while ur buddy is on the turret? i hope this clarify my point, it was never about comparing but taking examples of other games mechanics implementations.

As long they keep it on the dark. if they say that cant do it... well i can live with it. but they promised and we are making sure that they don't forget. hope that answers your question bro.

They have said they want it but it has to be done right, not just for the sake of it.

David Braben tells you here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM0Gcl7iUM8&t watch all of it. It answers your question. It is a 10 year project.

Edit: Here are the Devs talking about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yd-m9AR7mY&t

It will be boring anyway. Go watch some vids of that space epic Star Citizen. [haha]

homie i saw the video, wanting doesn't mean that they will is like me saying i want to give you immortality, that doesn't mean that i will. and it has to be done right???? when was the last time that Fdev released a feature that was done "right" 3.0 is literally a major rework of core features. so yea.... we can take the "it has to be done right" excuse as "it will never happen". do you see what i mean now??

but hey, maybe I'm wrong. still ill keep asking the question until we get a definitive answer e.g yes or not
